Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for New Jersey ahead of a major rainstorm coming to the region Tuesday evening.
The governor on Monday stated that the state of emergency will go into effect Tuesday at 5 p.m. and covers the entire state.
Tuesday’s storm is expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds. There is the potential for major flooding and widespread power outages.
Murphy warned drivers about using caution while out on the roadways.
"Do not assume that you can tell the depth of any pool of water, how fast it is moving or that driving an SUV even means that you are safe. Cars can be swept away, it can happen in an instant, and sadly we saw loss of life during Ida,” Murphy said.
New Jersey state troopers will be out on patrol and New Jersey’s utility companies will have crews standing by to repair any damage the storm may cause.
