Gov. Kathy Hochul met with business leaders in Westchester County Wednesday to discuss the housing crisis in New York state.
Hochul discussed her New York Housing Compact plan, which calls for building 800,000 new homes over the next decade to alleviate the state's housing crisis. She is encouraging communities to remove barriers to housing production and incentivize new construction.
"Having the ability to have housing to meet your needs of where you are right now in your life --that's a basic right in my opinion," says Hochul. "That shouldn't be unattainable. That shouldn't be something that you dream about, but I can't do that here in New York because I don't have that array of housing available to me."
