Kathy Hochul announced Monday the launch of a statewide task force against
antisemitism that will be part of the Department of Human Rights.
She said the
goal of the task force is to curb the 125% surge in
antisemitic crimes in New York City just last month. The governor called
fighting hate a “moral obligation for all New Yorkers.”
According
to Hochul, 10 regional councils across the state will convene and provide a
place for community members to share concerns, organize educational
programming, host hate crime prevention and community healing events and
conduct trainings in conflict resolution.
The new unit will also work with the New York
State Police to educate New Yorkers on the state's hate crimes laws.
