Gov. Andrew Cuomo was at the New York Medical College in Valhalla Tuesday, where he said the state is shifting its focus from COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths to a new set of metrics.
Those metrics include total tests administered, the number of positive results, the overall percent coming back positive and the infection rate.
So far, the metrics are moving in the right direction for the Mid-Hudson region, which has officially entered Phase 2 of reopening.
The governor was asked what the state would constitute as a spike in cases. He said any decisions that would require a dialing back of reopening would be met on a case-by-case basis.
"50,000 tests every day. Watch that daily number that's like getting your blood pressure reading every day…You know exactly how healthy your body is if you get those numbers on a daily basis. You look at that day-to-day testing number, you will know on a day-to-day basis what is happening."
