A graduation ceremony was especially emotional for some members of the community because it marks the end of an era for a White Plains school that has been educating children for more than a century.
Eighth-graders at Good Counsel Academy's elementary school said goodbye one last time to instructors and their school Friday during their graduation ceremony.
Parents and students at the all-girls' high school affiliated with Good Counsel had tried hard to save the school. The high school students graduated several weeks ago. A new location hasn't been found for the high school.
The elementary school, which is co-ed, will relocate to a new location just three miles away in Valhalla. Still, administrators say they are sad to see it go.
The Sisters of the Divine Compassion, who own the 16-acre property, says it can no longer afford to maintain it.
