Mothers who lost their children to war gathered at Eastchester Memorial Park Sunday for the dedication of a Gold Star Mothers monument.
The sound of bagpipes filled the air as Gold Star mothers saw the monument. They say they are bonded by the sad reality that their children are never coming home, but they understand the sacrifice.
The Eastchester VFW paid about $120,000 to build the seven-foot-tall bronze monument, which took six years of planning. It will also include a walkway with personally inscribed bricks. The VFW is currently seeking donations to cover some of its expenses.
