Girl Scout raises funds to buy license plate reader for police dept.
There's a new crime fighting tool in the Hudson Valley, thanks to a local Girl Scout.
Kimberly Rosell, 16, bought the Pelham Police Department a new license plate reader. The device helps police track down people with suspended licenses and outstanding warrants.
Rosell's gift is part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project.
"I think it's really important for us to recognize that police officers are there to protect us..and that we need to reach out as well and spread positive awareness," she says.
The new license plate reader cost over $12,000. Rosell raised the money to buy it, in part, by selling T-shirts outside a Pelham supermarket.
