Learn about the sweet work that goes into making fresh honey in Rockland County on this "Road Trip: Close to Home" to West Maple Farm in Monsey.
Honeybee tours are among several programs visitors can sign up to learn more about the ins and outs of farming.
This tour introduces you to a different side of honeybees not many people usually see.
You'll learn about the 50 hives that are home to about 1.5 million hardworking honeybees.
Owner Zev Oster says they are not aggressive because they are laser-focused on bringing in nectar and pollen.
Your tour guide will give you the right protective gear to check on the hives and make sure the queen is laying eggs.
It's a hands-on experience to teach you more about how essential honeybees are for biodiversity and the balance of nature.
The honeybees also help pollinate beautiful flowers that are just starting to bloom.
New at the farm this year, you can pick your own bouquet at the garden with a gorgeous selection!
There are plenty more activities for all ages at the farm, like at the petting zoo, where you'll meet dozens of animals.
You'll find other surprises and activities around every corner at the farm for a day well spent in nature on this "Road Trip Close to Home".
