With gas prices continuing to climb amid warmer weather and more drivers hitting the road, a local expert weighs in on how much longer this may continue.

The average price per gallon in Connecticut now stands at $4.08—over a dollar more than a year ago. Some of the highest prices are in Fairfield County, while the national average is nearly $4.12.

Professor David Sacco of the University of New Haven’s College of Business says we’ve still got a ways to go.

“They’ll continue to be volatile. You know, this thing is not going away tomorrow. So we’re going to see the shocks that will happen, and the real question is how long do gasoline and energy prices stay here. The longer they stay here, the more likely it is to trigger a recession. If we’re truly going to be near the end of this conflict and they start coming back down, then I think you’ll see a relatively quick adjustment.”

News 12 will take a deeper dive into gas prices and energy this weekend on Power and Politics, when Tara Rosenblum sits down with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
