Many in the Hudson Valley are having hard conversations about police distrust following the grand jury's decision in the Eric Garner case.
Some minority parents say they have put their kids on alert if they are approached by a police officer.
"Don't talk back to them," said one parent. "Don't get them upset, approach them very carefully."
Lowes Moore, with the Boys and Girls Club in Mount Vernon, says those with authority need to be obeyed. He also says his center has police officers and firefighters who frequently visit with the kids to build trust and understanding.
