This week’s Garden Guide segment happens to fall on one of the hottest days of the year. That doesn’t mean you can't still enjoy the outdoors any less. We are in a dream backyard designed by Cambridge Pavers Inc. to talk with founder and CEO Charles H. Gamarekian, about the three core ideas you need to keep in mind when you’re creating your own backyard retreat.

Design a yard for your lifestyle

If you love to entertain, there are so many options that will extend the indoors outside like outdoor kitchens, pergolas, water features, and fireplaces. Food is a huge part of the fun and these features make it possible to host a get together without ever going inside. Serious cooks can also add a pizza oven to the plan.
Gardeners interested in creating space for plants can add raised beds that will elevate their fruits and veggies off the ground. Plants growing in tall, raised beds with drip irrigation are easier to maintain than growing plants in the ground. It's also easier to reach the fruits of your labor (and more difficult for the critters to find!)

Create “Garden Rooms”

Pathways and patios are just a few of the little garden nooks that can give the illusion that your yard is bigger than it is. These "garden rooms" are practical and beautiful. Plants are a great way to separate one space from the next, add privacy, and soften a view. Use fragrant plants near pathways and patios for a sweet treat!

It’s okay to start small

The team at Cambridge Pavers Inc. says it’s absolutely possible to create a seamless looking backyard even when it's done in phases. The color and texture of the paving stones never fade so you can extend your space seamlessly. They will be able to find a perfect match. All the work can reap benefits in the long run. Gamarekian, Founder and CEO of Cambridge Pavers Inc says investing in these hardscape features and in your landscaping can increase the value of your home by 15 to 20%.
