Hundreds of mourners came to say good-bye to the NYPD officer who died on Wednesday.
Officer Eric Hernandez was accidentally shot by another officer two weeks ago in a case of mistaken identity. Hernandez was attacked by six men in a White Castle in the Bronx. Officials say the beating left Hernandez dazed and unable to respond when arriving police officers demanded he drop his gun. That?s when officials say officer Toro shot him in the legs and abdomen.
Hernandez remained in critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx until he suffered a seizure last weekend. He died on Wednesday after his family made the decision to remove him from life support.
A funeral with full police honors is planned for Officer Hernandez on Monday at 10 a.m. at Saint Bernard?s Church in White Plains. Police say the six men involved in the attack on Hernandez have all been charged with gang assault, but those charges could be upgraded.
