Hundreds attended the funeral of Yonkers NAACP leader Winston Ross Saturday morning.
Ross died last Sunday at the age of 73 after devoting his career to fighting for social justice. He previously served as the president of the NAACP chapter and was involved with the organization for many years.
His efforts were captured in the HBO miniseries "Show Me a Hero."
The show chronicles the 1980s battle to desegregate Yonkers, a social justice crusade which Spring Valley NAACP President Vivian Street says he was at the forefront of.
Despite his outward reputation as a fierce civil rights leader, family and friends say that Ross also had a quiet and deeply sensitive side.
Ross will be laid to rest at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
