Fundraiser created for family after death of volunteer firefighter, EMT
Families throughout Westchester say they are reeling from the sudden death of volunteer firefighter and EMT Emily Rose Storm.
Storm's mother tells News 12 that they died by suicide over the weekend after suffering mental health issues and the tolls of transitioning from male to female.
Their mother, Margaret, says that over the last year, Storm was anxious about transitioning and had to be hospitalized four times for psychiatric evaluations and thoughts of suicide.
Storm's impact on Westchester is clear - almost $37,000 has been raised for their family since Sunday to help pay for funeral expenses and to fix Storm's room.
"The rest of the money will go to the Trevor Project, and that was a group that was near and dear to her heart. They work with LGBTQ+ youth in mental health issues, anxiety, and suicide prevention," says Margaret Kaplan.
If you need help and want to talk to someone, the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 800-273-8255.
