Valhalla residents won't need to worry about their water this morning after a fuel spill seeped into the storm drains there.
Health officials say it was about 7 p.m. Sunday when a fuel delivery was being made at the Lukoil gas station on Broadway in Valhalla.
According to the tanker driver, as the diesel fuel was being pumped into the holding tank, it began to overflow. "I don't know what happened exactly, but I think it's over filled," says LLC truck driver Uri Oxstin.
About 15 gallons spilled, most of it going into a storm drain.
Some people in the area say the strong odor caused them to feel slightly ill. "I didn't like the smell, and my head was hurting a little bit, but other than that I was just worried where it was coming from," says Fernanda Nascimento, of the Village Creamery and Sweet Shop.
Fire, police, Hazmat crews and the Department of Environmental Conservation were called in to help mitigate the damage. After numerous tests, no warnings have been issued by the health department
