FTC: Beware of scammers looking to profit off Florida condo collapse
The Federal Trade Commission is warning people to use caution when making contributions to the victims of the Florida condo collapse.
Scammers are setting up false charity sites hoping to profit off the tragedy by creating fraudulent GoFundMe accounts.
The FTC is encouraging people to follow these guidelines to avoid cams:
• Block unwanted calls and text messages
• Never give out personal or financial information and resist the pressure to act immediately
• Legitimate businesses will give you time to make a decision
FTC officials say the Volunteer Florida website is the official state sponsored way to donate to the tragedy.
