Family and friends are mourning the loss of the police officer killed in a NYPD van crash on the Bruckner Expressway Sunday.
Officer Michael Williams, 25, was killed and eight others were injured after the NYPD van they were in crashed on the Bruckner Expressway in Hunts Point.
Friends and family say Williams joined the force in January and was an only child. Fellow officers say he was well-liked and a hard worker. News 12 has also learned that Williams' father served in the police force in Carmel for over 32 years.
Chief of the Carmel Police Department Michael Cazzari says Williams' father spoke highly of his son and was proud that he walked in his footsteps.
Wake services will be held on Wednesday at McHoul Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction. His funeral service will take place on Thursday.
Four of the injured officers are still in Lincoln Hospital, but are expected to be OK.
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said an investigation is ongoing, and that weather conditions, speed and seat belt issues will all be looked into. It's unclear whether Williams was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
