Family and friends of Lois Bronz gathered in White Plains Monday to pay their final respects to the Westchester trailblazer who died last week.

Bronz was the first African-American and the first woman to serve as chair of the Westchester County Legislature.

Before Bronz passed at the age of 90, she paved the way for the legislators who would follow her. She spent 16 years on the Greenburgh Town Board before being elected to the County Board. 

She was an educator for three decades and also opened the Lois Bronz Children's Center for the youth that she held so dear.

Bronz also opened doors for women and black candidates, making it easier for them to run for office and win in Westchester County.

The funeral for Bronz will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
