Friends and family are paying it forward in honor of Arlene O’Neill at a fundraiser Friday night in Eastchester. Dozens gathered at Mickey Spillane’s for the Eastchester SEPTA Fundraiser in her honor.

The tragic loss of Arlene O’Neill is still being felt deeply over a month later.

"She was able to touch so many different communities within our community, says Eleanor Evangelista, Arlene's friend. Arlene was a mother, friend and teacher in Eastchester. Police say she was shot and killed by her husband, Sean, in a murder-suicide inside their home in Yonkers last month. "I think the community is trying to heal," says Evangelista.

The tragedy has left a hole in the hearts of those who knew her. "She meant a lot to everyone. She was a wonderful mother, teacher, friend," says Jennifer Inglis, Arlene's friends.

It’s not hard to find someone who loved Arlene and is doing everything they can to remember her. "She is a very big supporter of our special education PTA. She came to all of our events so tonight we want to give back to her family the way she gave back to us," says Inglis. "A wonderful person and someone I was happy to call a friend," says Stephen Carty, owner of Mickey Spillane's and Arlene's friend.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the O’Neill family.

Her friends and family also plan to continue to remember her by sharing her story and wearing green.
