Friends and family said farewell Friday morning at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville to Daniel DeSerio who was killed in a hit-and-run last week.
Those loved ones remember him the same way.
"He was just a gentle soul,” said childhood friend Dino Kasamis, of Garnerville. "I remember him as a super nice guy. Always helping. Always helping my mom. So I appreciate everything he was about."
"Oh, Danny was the kindest, most gentle soul I've ever met in my life. We've been friends since 12 years old in the Bronx,” said Ralph Miele, of New City.
DeSerio, 72, spent the last 20 plus years before his death as a window washer in Nyack and Piermont.
"At his wake last night, the outpouring of people that he worked with in the town of Nyack was so unbelievable. Danny would never expect, he was such a quiet, gentle soul, he would never expect this outpouring of love,” said Miele.
The driver left the scene.
Haverstraw police say they now have found two cars as well as the drivers but say there are conflicting reports.
The department is still investigating and are asking for any witnesses to contact their detectives division at 845-942-3730.
