A friendly football game in Harrison Saturday honored Joseph Lemm – an NYPD detective and Air National Guard tech who was killed while deployed in Afghanistan.
His wife Christine and two children were at game.
“Anytime there’s a memorial or service, it goes right to the heart, always hoping, wishing that circumstances were different,” she says. “We make the most of it.”
Their youngest son, Ryan, was presented with a team jersey with the No. 89 – the number his dad wore when he played football in high school.
Lemm was also honored for his service in the NYPD as a detective in the Warrants Squad. There was a pregame NYPD flyover and Police Commissioner James O’Neill was in attendance.
Lemm’s step daughter Brooke Chaco sang the national anthem before the game.
“It’s always easy knowing he’s always there every time I sing,” she says.
