Prom season can be stressful — from finding the perfect outfit to feeling confident on the big night. But for many Westchester teens, help is just around the corner.
Operation Prom is stepping in, offering free dresses and tuxedos to students across the county — giving them a chance to look and feel their best without the financial burden.
The nonprofit, part of the Prom National Network, has been serving Westchester for more than two decades. Organizers say the goal goes beyond fashion.
“It helps build self-confidence and self-esteem for a lot of these students,” said founder Noel Dallaccio.
For teens like Star from Hopewell Junction, the experience can be transformative. After finding a dress at the event, she said she finally felt confident heading into the prom.
Others say the pressure is real — from picking the right outfit to getting every detail just right — but volunteers are there every step of the way.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing for a lot of kids,” one volunteer said. “You want to make the night as special as possible.”
