The Rockland YMCA hosted its first free back-to-school haircuts at YOGI’Z Plus in Central Nyack.
"Getting a haircut is an overlooked expense,” said Phil Donnelly, the executive director of the Rockland YMCA. “We just want to help the kids going back."
About a dozen kids sat in the barber’s chair to get spruced up for their first day of classes.
"A haircut makes me feel like you can have a higher confidence just talking to friends," said Tanner who is getting ready to start eighth grade. "I think it's going to be one of my best years in school, maybe."
"So wherever we can support and help the kids, that's where I go,” said Barber Tyrone “Yogi” Williams doing his part to get these students feeling and looking good for the first day of school. "Making them feel good by giving them a haircut means a lot for me, and sometimes it’s a lot for them.”
The Rockland YMCA also partnered with another organization earlier this month to get school supplies for kids, too.
