Former Village of Airmont trustee gets 8-month prison sentence for weapons charges

A former Village of Airmont trustee was sentenced to eight months in federal prison for possessing an unregistered firearm.

Brian Downey, who was also fined more than $7,000, pleaded guilty to various state weapons charges back in February.

The 49-year-old had been hit with dozens of weapons charges back in 2021 after guns were found in his Airmont home. The search of the weapons happened as a result of authorities being alerted that he bought an illegal rifle suppression device.

Downey faces sentencing on six separate weapons-related charges on Nov 14. in Rockland County Court.
