A former state prison site in Orange County will soon be home to one of the largest cannabis investors in the country.
Citiva Medical purchased a lot on the site in Warwick for $500,000, and it plans to break ground within the next few weeks.
Supervisor Michael Sweeton says medical marijuana giant Citiva has purchased more than 8 acres of the property on State School Road for the company's newest cannabis processing plant.
The site will be a production facility, so no retail selling of marijuana or prescribing will be done there.
The grounds, which include seven other commercial parcels still up for sale and owned by the Warwick Valley Local Development Corporation, have been vacant since the state prison closed in 2011.
The growhouse will be the second of its kind in Orange County.
Citiva plans to open by the end of the year, with its product being sold in dispensaries in New York City and Dutchess County.
