Former South Salem liquor store employee convicted of assault amid ongoing claims of police abuse

A man was found guilty on multiple charges stemming from an incident at his former workplace in South Salem.
Lewisboro police say Carlos Bringas Jr. was recently convicted in town court of assault, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
The convictions stem from a June 2022 incident at Vista Wine and Spirits in South Salem, where Bringas was employed.
Police have not released details about what led to the arrest.
Bringas faces up to one year in jail when he is sentenced.
The case has also been the subject of a federal lawsuit filed by Bringas against the Lewisboro Police Department.
Bringas claims in the lawsuit that officers came to the store, including one officer who had allegedly made unwanted sexual advances toward his fiancée.
The complaint alleges officers acted aggressively toward him and placed him in a police vehicle that exceeded 100 degrees.
The lawsuit also claims an officer assaulted Bringas while he was handcuffed as other officers failed to intervene.
Lewisboro Police Chief Chris Macri says the department has no comment due to pending litigation.
