A long-abandoned psychiatric center in Middletown has been destroyed after a fast moving fire ripped through the building.
According to fire officials, the blaze started at 5:55 a.m. on Sunday at the four-story brick building, which dates back to the 1800s.
Hundreds of firefighter from surrounding towns battled the fire into the evening. One of the challenges was that crews had to shuttle in water from alternate places to contain fire.
No official cause of the fire has been released, but officials discovered fireworks on the side of the building.
The building and grounds have recently been sold to make way for a fine arts school.
