Political headlines came to life in a very unexpected way on the streets of one Westchester town last week.
A president got to meet a CIA whistleblower – sort of.
President Donald Trump did not get to meet the CIA whistleblower who sparked the impeachment inquiry. But on Halloween, former President Bill Clinton met Jason Lichtenthal, of Millwood, who was dressed up as the CIA whistleblower in Scattered Books in Chappaqua.
“A smile came on his face, and he realized what the costume was. He pointed at me and said, 'You're a CIA whistleblower!' That's funny,” says Lichtenthal.
Lichtenthal says he and the former president then had a 10-minute conversation in the hustle and bustle of the downtown book store, which was packed with trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.
Laura Schafer, who owns Scattered Books, says President Clinton is always in the store.
“He was buying a couple mysteries for himself and the new Alexander McCall Smith, I believe for Hillary,” she says.
Schafer says the former president is always friendly with everyone when he shops there.
Lichtenthal agrees, adding he's met the president and Secretary Clinton before.
The owner of Scattered Books says President Clinton usually picks up mystery books at her store -- along with thrillers and history.
