Former President Barack Obama received a high honor at the United States Military Academy West Point.
The Thayer Award is presented to an outstanding citizen whose service and accomplishments in the national interest exemplify the military academy’s motto, “Duty, Honor, Country.”
Obama is the fifth U.S. president to receive the award.
While accepting the award Thursday, Obama said he felt profoundly humble.
"The thing I can still do is express my heartfelt gratitude and pride to every cadet for your commitment to service the American people," said Obama.
He also mentioned some words of advice for the next generation.
"Democracy is not just about the words on our founding documents or any particular election, it's about the choices we make," said Obama.
