A former Mount Vernon political activist has been sentenced to seven years in prison for defrauding restaurant employees and COVID-19 relief workers in Virginia, according to authorities.
Derickson Lawrence, 67, was convicted of using funds that should have gone to restaurant employees on himself.
He previously ran for congress and mayor of Mount Vernon.
Authorities say he will pay over $220,000 to the workers.
