A former Mount Vernon High School basketball star is recovering after being shot Tuesday night.
Isaiah Cousins, who now plays guard for the University of Oklahoma, was back home in Mount Vernon walking with friends when he was hit in the back of his shoulder by a stray bullet. Reports say the bullet was from gunfire exchanged by two rival gangs.
Cousins' mom, Lisa, says the 20-year-old is doing well and recovering. Oklahoma basketball coach Lon Kruger says he should be healed in a few weeks and will begin summer activities with the rest of the team in June.
Police have not yet made any arrests in the shooting, but they are planning on stepping up patrols in areas they know to have high incidents of crime.
Cousins started all 33 games for the Oklahoma Sooners last year.
