A former New York Jets player is flying to Rockland County from Florida this weekend for a special 5K that News 12 first reported on last week - in memory of two boys who died from the same disease as his son.
Paul Frase, who played for the New York Jets from 1988 to 1994, founded the Joshua Frase foundation with his wife in 1996, a year after Joshua’s birth and diagnosis with a rare form of muscular dystrophy called myotubular myopathy.
The former NFL star will be in Sloatsburg Saturday for the event organized by local teen Ruari Maguire in memory of his two brothers who died as infants years before he was born.
Frase said he was touched by the boy’s efforts to raise money for the Joshua Frase Foundation and wanted to be there to support the Maguire family.
“It’s a heartfelt, touching story and I want to stand strong with Ruari," said Frase.
Ruari’s 5K will be held Saturday at the Sloatsburg Community Fields from 8AM to noon.
