A former aide to Jersey City mayor and gubernatorial candidate Steven Fulop is suing for wrongful termination, retaliation and discrimination.
Jonathan Gomez-Noriega was terminated in August for campaigning for and donating money to the campaign of his sister who posted inflammatory comments while running for secretary of state in Missouri.
Fulop said the issue is that Gomez supported his sister while also serving on the Jersey City LGBTQ task force.
The mayor said that he tried to help Gomez and instructed him to separate himself from his sister’s controversial comments. However, Gomez kept his allegiance to his sister.
Fulop’s office responded to the lawsuit, saying in part, “This lawsuit has no merit…We wish him luck in his next chapter.”
