Almost six years after the 9/11 attacks, a forgotten victim?s name will be added to The Rising monument in Valhalla.
Michael Packer, of Hartsdale, was speaking at a business breakfast at the World Trade Center when the terrorist attacks occurred. One-hundred-and-nine other Westchester residents perished in the attacks. Packer?s wife recently contacted county officials to let them know her husband's name was left off the monument.
The county apologized to Packer's widow, but says it decided not to add an additional steel rod on the monument to mark the 110th victim. Instead, a stone plaque with Packer's name and words from his wife and two children will be placed at the base of the monument. While Packer's widow is satisfied with the decision, others are not."[If there is no rod] it says the county does not care enough to pay what little it costs to do that," Robert Buchannon, of Yorktown, said.
The county plans to add the stone as soon as possible.
