A footbridge was recently built at the pre-production site for the new Tappan Zee Bridge in Tomkins Cove.
Construction crews have been building the skeleton of the new bridge at a former power plant. Massive cages and framework will be floated down the Hudson River to help build the foundation.
One issue, however, is that freight trains sometimes stop for hours unattended in front of the construction area, cutting off dozens of workers from getting to the site. First responders would have a difficult time reaching the site in case of emergency.
The footbridge will provide uninterrupted access for workers and better access for emergency crews. It will also help make production faster, so workers aren't waiting around for the trains to pass.
The owner of the train tracks says they are making every effort to move the trains as fast as possible through that area.
