More than 200 people gathered for the 10th annual Hunger Heroes awards breakfast in Tarrytown Thursday morning. The ceremony honors volunteers who help feed the needy.
The Food Bank for Westchester hosted the event, handing out four awards to volunteer groups responsible for feeding thousands.
"Everyone can bring something to the table," says James Powell, who runs a food pantry in Mount Vernon. "Whatever it is you can do can make a difference."
With the help of volunteers from his church, Powell says he feeds more than 100 families a week.
Out of roughly a million people in Westchester, about one in five is at risk of hunger, organizers say.
