Holiday travelers faced considerable delays at Westchester County Airport in Harrison Wednesday due to dense fog that impacted flight schedules.
Passengers told News 12 they waited up to four hours before they could board their flights.
Melisa Miser, of Ossining, who was flying to Miami with her family, was scheduled for a 6 a.m. departure, which was pushed back until almost noon. She mentioned waking up at 3:45 a.m. to check for delays.
"It's a little ridiculous because they're not moving, but luckily we have enough time because I had a feeling this would be the case. I don't understand why it's quite this bad. But it's a little unfortunate," she said.
Airport officials implemented measures to assist impacted passengers by allowing those with upcoming flights to move to the front of the security line so they could avoid missing their flights.
Anand Palshikar, of Pelham, was excited to visit his grandmother in Orlando.
"There's too many people in that area, so you can't go through security yet. And that means that we just have to wait here for a couple of hours. But the problem is all the flights board at the same time. So no one can go through security," he said.
Despite the delays, the vacationers remained optimistic that their much-awaited vacations will be even sweeter upon landing.
