Flooding causes major damage to homes, businesses across Westchester

Ida may be past the Hudson Valley, but the work to rebuild is just beginning.

Personal belongings of those impacted by Ida now line the streets in Mamaroneck.

More than 10 feet of water swallowed up entire homes and destroyed everything in an instant.

Many businesses in the area are temporarily shuttered, including 'Nana's Kids,' a child day care on Mamaroneck Avenue. It will need about three weeks before it can open again.

"Everything is destroyed, and everything's got to go because this is sewer water," says Marney Ranani, owner of Nana's Kids.

Some of the heaviest lifting is still to come, with roads like Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers filled with abandoned cars and several feet of water.

The neighboring Saw Mill Parkway remains shut down, looking more like a river than a roadway.
