? Some New Rochelle residents breathed a sigh of relief Tuesday after the city agreed to survey a flood-prone area.
During a meeting at City Hall, several problems dealing with a specific creek were addressed. According to residents, the stream overflows every time there is significant rainfall. Homeowners say that overflow causes massive flooding on their property and in the area. Residents fear it?s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt as a result of the frequent flooding.
City Manager John Clemente claims the stream is part of the Hutchinson River and is not New Rochelle?s responsibility. However, an agreement was finally reached in which an engineer with experience in watershed issues will come in to survey the area. New Rochelle Councilwoman Mariane Sussman says she?s going to ask the city to pay for the survey. New Rochelle will also reach out to nearby areas affected by the flooding for possible financial help with the plan.
