The LBGT community was recognized today in Yonkers.
About 50 people gathered at the Yonkers City Hall Plaza for the city's first rainbow flag raising in honor of pride month.
Organizers say the flag raising not only recognizes the LGBT community, but it also celebrates their contributions to Yonkers.
The mayor also made a proclamation recognizing this week as Gay Pride Week in Yonkers.
There is hope among LGBT supporters that the flag raising will become an annual event.
Sunday is Gay Pride Sunday in Yonkers.
