Two first responders took the stand Tuesday on the second day of former "Sopranos" actor Lillo Brancato Jr.'s murder trial.
The first witness, NYPD Officer Map, said he heard two loud bangs coming from Westchester Avenue on Oct. 10, 2005, the day off-duty police Officer Daniel Enchautegui was shot and killed in Pelham Bay.
Map says he saw Brancato running toward his SUV and shouted, "Police, don't move." During defense questioning, Map testified that Brancato was unarmed and surrendered immediately.
Brancato faces a second-degree murder charge in the killing of Enchautegui. Brancato's co-defendant, Steven Armento, was convicted of first-degree murder Oct. 30 and later sentenced to life in prison without parole. Brancato's defense team is trying to argue that their client was not armed and was unaware Armento was carrying a weapon.
The second witness, NYPD Detective Latanzio, testified about attempting to save Enchautegui after he was shot. "I couldn't believe he was dead," Latanzio said.
