Rescuers in Orange County were honored for their teamwork that saved a 4-year-old boy who suffered from a serious medical scare last year.

As 4-year-old Joey Federico was getting ready for bed, he suffered a massive brain aneurysm.

New Windsor Paramedics Chief Michael Bigg says the boy's heart rate dropped to nearly nothing when they started CPR in the ambulance. While they worked to save the boy, police jumped on board and drove the ambulance to the hospital.

 

Once there, dispatch had already called for a helicopter to take the boy to Westchester Medical Center where Federico underwent emergency surgery within an hour.

Now, Federico is nearly 100% better. His parents tell News 12 they are beyond grateful to all the first responders who helped him that day.

The team that helped him was honored last week by the state Assembly in Albany for their life-saving actions.
