There is a push today for Verizon to build promised cellphone towers in a dangerous dead zone spanning two Hudson Valley counties. 

Officials, including elected leaders and emergency responders, say Verizon is dragging its feet in installing two approved towers that would provide much-needed cellphone service in the area of the Palisades Parkway, on the border of Rockland and Orange counties. 

Emergency responders say calls for help in the dead zone are often received miles away and minutes later from passersby. “You can only imagine how delayed this can get. It’s really horrible but there have been times we’re driving up and down Route 6 and the Palisades Parkway, 293, looking for somebody,” says Debbie Vobroucek, of Woodbury Community Ambulance.

News 12 reached out to Verizon who said they’re working with the Parkway Commission to improve coverage.
