In celebration of the long-awaited 70% vaccination milestone for New York, landmarks were lit in blue and gold statewide Tuesday night and there were fireworks in various cities, including at Memorial Park in Nyack.

Nyack was just one of 10 locations across the state that had fireworks, and many big landmarks were lit in blue and gold, including the Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge.

Along with celebrating 70% and the end of most COVID-19 restrictions, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the demonstrations are to honor essential workers - the doctors, nurses, grocery store employees and others - who helped get us here.

And amid all the celebration, it's also a reminder that there's still more work to do to get to herd immunity.

Dr. Sandra Kesh, of Westmed, says for New York's next milestone, we should get 80 or 90% of adults fully vaccinated.

She says we need to target cities with the lowest vaccination rates and encourage those who are hesitant to get the shot.

The Nyack fireworks event was free and open to the public.
