Two fires forced dozens of Mount Vernon residents into the streets on Sunday.
The first fire occurred at a four-family home on Haven Street early Sunday morning. Eighteen people were displaced in that fire.
A second fire broke out around 4 p.m. Sunday at a two-family home on Vernon Avenue. It took several hours to get that fire under control.
McKenzie tells News 12 that memories of her only daughter were lost in the devastating fire.
"The picture, the baby picture, I cannot replace those because I don't have all of them,” says McKenzie.
Her family recently held a memorial service on the one-year anniversary of Shamoya's death.
Red Cross officials say they are helping the victims of both fires.
