Firefighters in Newburgh held a crude oil disaster drill today.
Crews in Newburgh tested out new, state-funded foam spraying equipment which is designed to better handle a crude oil disaster along rails and waterways.
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney(D) spoke ahead of the waterfront drill, saying it's much-needed given the half-dozen oil trains that pass through the city each day. "Seconds matter in a disaster and this equipment is the difference between a minor accident and major disaster. So it's absolutely essential we support these efforts," says Maloney.
Maloney is pushing for more resources and hazard training for first responders, and he has co-sponsored the Response Act in Congress.
