More than a dozen firefighters in Mount Vernon have been treated for heat exhaustion while battling a church blaze that re-ignited on Monday.
The raging smoke and fire gutted the Faith Temple Worship Center in Mount Vernon. Temperatures almost reached 100 degrees across the Hudson Valley, making conditions extremely difficult for fire crews.
The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to the fire at around 9:30 a.m. at 204 South Fulton Ave.
A deli, liquor store and hair salon were left gutted, and an adjacent home was left so damaged that five families cannot return.
Thirteen firefighters - including three from mutual aid companies - were sent to the hospital.
