A New Rochelle family is homeless after a quick-moving fire forced firefighters to tear down their bedroom walls.

The fire started around noon Saturday at a home on Everett Street.

The three young children and three adults living in the home were able to evacuate the house and are uninjured.

Dozens of firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. However, several bedroom walls had to be torn down because it was the only way for firefighters to see where the blaze started.

Officials say it seemed to start in the home's outer wall, which stands only about eight inches from the building next to it. The close quarters made it difficult for firefighters to get an up-close look.

Fire officials say it is unclear if the fire started inside or outside, but it appears accidental.

Because of extensive water and smoke damage, the family will be staying with relatives in Mount Vernon for the time being.
