Fire officials: 1 person dead in fire at Monroe home
One person died Friday morning in a fire at a home on Bagburn Hill Road in Monroe.
Fire officials say they received a call around 9 a.m. about smoke coming out of the windows and roof of the home. Officials say they were focusing on the addition section of the home.
They say once they were at the scene, crews encountered heavy smoke on the first floor, which they were able to contain quickly.
The crew located an adult female inside the living room of the main section of the home, where she was pronounced dead.
Officials say the victim did not make any calls to 911, and the victim was the only person in the home. It appeared she was overcome by smoke.
Fire officials say it doesn't appear that an open flame was the cause.
The victim’s identity has not been released. Her family was at the scene and told News 12 the victim was a nurse at one point and had a farm in the back of her home.
The fire marshal says the last deadly fire in Monroe was three years ago.
