A family of eight from Mount Vernon is homeless Tuesday after a fast-moving fire badly damaged their home.
The fire broke out at 316 South Fourth Ave. around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control.
Officials say it started on the roof and quickly spread.
All eight people living in the house got out safely.
Fire officials say they have not determined a cause of the fire, but it appears to be accidental.
